Thoracic Mobility Routine — Swim Faster With Better Body Position
Body position in the water is one of the most overlooked levers for swimming faster. Every degree your hips or legs drop, every bit of restriction that stops you rotating fully onto your side, adds drag — and drag is what’s really slowing you down, not a lack of fitness.
This 10-minute mobility routine targets the thoracic spine (mid-back) — the single biggest driver of a long, streamlined, low-drag body position. Better thoracic mobility means:
- A flatter, more efficient body line — less drag, less resistance, more speed for the same effort
- Cleaner extension through butterfly and breaststroke pull
- Reduced strain on your shoulders and lower back, which so often take the load when the mid-back is stiff
Inside, you’ll find 7 targeted exercises plus a cool-down — each with clear step-by-step instructions and exact reps/hold times, laid out on a single page you can print and take straight to the pool deck.
Do it 3–5 times a week, ideally straight after training while your muscles are warm, and you’ll start feeling the difference in your efficiency and speed within a couple of weeks.
10 minutes. One page. A better body position every time you swim.
